Jack, Havanese puppy mill dogJack is a male Havanese who was dumped on a local no-kill shelter the week before Christmas, 2009. He’d lived his entire life in a wire cage inside a Lancaster county puppy mill. His age is unknown since his teeth were in such bad shape and needed numerous extractions. Our vet’s best guess is that he is about 4 years old. When we adopted Jack on Jan.19, 2010 he was extremely scared and shy. Worse he was petrified of everything in his new environment and I mean everything. He`d never been for a walk outdoors, he`d never eliminated anywhere but his cage, and he did not trust people; especially men. A friend recommended Ali and Great Companions, I`m so glad she did!  Now Jack is a happy, well adjusted, active little guy who enjoys going for walks, car rides and watching the evening news with my husband. He is completely housebroken and that horrible place he came from is become a distant memory.

Christmas 2010 update:

Hi Ali, I hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas! I wanted to drop you a line and let you know how well Jack is doing. He has really become a typical dog. All of the routines are great, he`s completely potty trained, (no more peepads!), he runs back and forth from me to the door when he has to go; he loves his walks. He is very excited when company comes. He`ll run towards the door but stops about 10 feet away and stands with tail wagging to see who came to see him. He then waits till company sits and then puts a paw up on the couch to see if they want Jack to sit with them. He`s not pushy but no one can resist him!. He spent a lot of time over the summer in the pool! And whenever we went to the mountains he insisted we take him on a golf cart ride before unpacking. My husband puts him on his La-Z-Boy in the morning and he`s content there most of the day. Todd also walks him and cooks for him which I think is a hoot since he never wanted a dog. He now understands what joy a good dog can bring to a home. Thanks for all you did, we really have a cool little guy who`s gonna have a great 1st Christmas. Have a great New Year.
