Playing Catch-up...Bing meets Cyan -- November 9, 2008

Yikes!!

The last Bing Blog was written on June 3, three days before the birth of my daughter Cyan.

If you’ve been slogging through these blogs, you are aware that Pete and I had been concerned about the introduction of a small human to Bing’s world. Small children reach and grab, chase and squeal. Yikes again.
When we brought Cyan home, it was as if the dogs had totally expected it. Pete knew he would have to hold the dogs down because they’d want to jump all over me, as they do when I’m gone for a prolonged period of time. I had, after all, been gone for 4 days.

Bing is ever present where Ali and Cyan are concerned
Bing was ever present, and often under foot in Cyan's younger days. Here at about two months of age, Cyan and the rest of us are out for a walk. Lately, he'll hang out with Ali and Cyan (considerably more than Acacia does), but he's no longer as much of a tripping hazard.
We all say, Go Phillies!
It was a great year to be pregnant -- nine months and 12 days -- and then raise a time consuming infant if you're a Phillies Phan. It meant the hours spent watching TV (because there wasn't much else you could do) was rewanded with a World Series Championship.
Bing Cyan and bits of Pete and Ali
Cyan, at about 2 weeks of age, takes a nap in Pete's lap while Bing looks on and Ali reads about babies. And no, that is not a distorted photograph. Cyan's head was that shape when she was born.

Once they got to see me, they turned their attention to the car seat. Acacia did what she still does; she sniffed her head for 3 seconds and walked away. Acacia has been nothing but perfectly respectful of Cyan. It’s a really cool thing to watch. Bing was a bit leery, and gave a glance from the side of his eyes, but that was about all he did.

It didn’t take him long, though, to express more interest in Cyan. Within the first day or two, Bing would follow me around as I carried Cyan. When I sat down, he’d sit or lay at my feet, or under them, or next to me. He loves to lick her head, her ears, her hands, her face. She mostly isn’t bothered by that at all.

Recently, she has started to do what most 5 month olds do…reaching out for things. She started to reach toward Acacia about a week or two ago, but she really hadn’t done that toward Bing.

Yesterday, she did reach out for Bing’s face. All he did was lick her hand the way he always does.

Good boy!

Bing licks Cyan's toes
Ali and Pete were watching very carefully as Bing sniffed and licked Cyan's toes while she was lying on her play mat.

bing licks cyans fingers while Pete holds her. Bing licks Cyan's hand, again under supervision. Cyan is about 5 months old here.
Bing is Cyan's guardian
Bing really does like to hang out in Cyan's vicinity when he's not preoccupied with other important issues, like squirrels.
